2013 Kentucky Lineman's Rodeo Recap

Successful Rodeo
With probably the best weather the rodeo has ever seen, 81 linemen from 16 Kentucky electric cooperatives participated in the annual Kentucky Lineman's Rodeo July 25 and 26. This was the ninth annual rodeo and, even though there is a lot of friendly competition, the real reason behind the rodeo was safety. In each event, from pole climb to hurt man to even the mystery events, points were deducted if not performed in a safe manner. This year’s rodeo was held at Fleming-Mason Energy and was jointly sponsored by: Big Sandy RECC, Clark Energy, Fleming-Mason Energy, Grayson RECC, and Licking Valley RECC.

There were also 57 judges from the various Kentucky co-ops, KAEC Safety & Loss Prevention (coordinators of the rodeo) and other electric utilities. With judge participation included, 23 of 26 Kentucky electric cooperatives participated in some way in this year's rodeo. Support was also provided by family and co-worker spectators.
